Re: Microsoft Debate
First topic message reminder :
If anyone is wondering, Windows 8 was originally intended for mobile devices but Microsoft had to develop the 8.1 patch because many people still use a desktop computer rather than a mobile device. Unfortunately there's going to be a time when support for win7 (which is what I'm using at present) will end, but I'm hoping that this doesn't happen anytime soon.

Free anti virus software's are like a placebo. They give the impression you are secure and have no viruses, in reality they stop nothing.
If you want proper protection then you have to pay for it.

Re: Microsoft Debate
I agree with there Brandon. Free Anti Virus doesn't you any good at all. Paying for Anti Virus is always the best way to go. That is why I am loving McAfee

Re: Microsoft Debate
Purchased anti-virus software usually works considerably better than free ones as they offer a lot more protection.

Free ones offer almost no protection. I equate them to a placebo. Best to pay for anti virus then to have alot of viruses slowing down your computer.

I agree with you Brandon. That is what happened to my last computer with AVG. It didn't do a very good job of taking off the viruses. It did stop working and we had to get rid of it. I would stick with McAfee which you do pay for and it does get rid of any threats or viruses that do decide to come from any where. It does the best job of protecting your computer and it does update itself. It also does it own scans. But you can do a scan if you want to. That is why I don't like AVG or Norton since they didn't work at all. I would stay with McAfee since it does the best job with viruses or threats on my computer

Re: Microsoft Debate
I used to have this until my computer tech made the stupid choice to remove this and replace it with AVG Free. Frustratingly, I haven't been able to get Norton installed on my win10 PC... yet.

It's crap! I wouldn't trust my personal information on any machine that isn't protected with paid anti virus. If your not paying for it, then it means the software protecting you is not all in on protecting you to the fullest. Microsoft is not an anti virus company. McAfee, Norton, Malwarebytes and the like all have their reputations on the line, and since they are all paid software, you know your going to get good protection from it.
Just because your computer isn't running slow or acting weird, doesn't mean it doesn't have a virus.
There is spyware, which doesn't actually harm the computer, it sits there and just collects your information such as passwords, credit card info or anything else you input into your computer. It's whole purpose is to be silent and effect the computer as little as possible, so it isn't discovered and can keep stealing your info.
I garuntee you any computer without some sort of paid anti virus, has atleast a couple viruses of some sort in there.
Re: Microsoft Debate
i can understand why no one would like it but i have also used other AV software as well including WebRoot it's a cloud based AV and that to even works well i would get it again if it didn't cost so much yearly when the renew period comes up.
Re: Microsoft Debate
Webroot is decent. Again anything that you can pay for is going to be atleast somewhat better than just windows defender.
Re: Microsoft Debate
I don't like Windows Defender or whatever they call it now on Windows 10. It doesn't do the best job at all. I still stay with McAfee. I wasn't fan of AVG or Norton either. McAfee does the best job of protecting your computer. That is my thoughts

Re: Microsoft Debate
I am glad you agree with me Brandon. Having the best protection is the what you want on your laptop or computer. Windows doesn't have the best protection. Even in the one update they said it would give the best protection it isn't true at all. Since McAfee would give better protection than any update from Mircosoft would give you

Re: Microsoft Debate
so far i have not had any issues with it i even did a malware bytes scan as well and everything came back clean on that end also so far it's doing it's job as long as you stay away from sites that are not trusted.
Re: Microsoft Debate
That is the best way to do it since when you don't have Anti Virus software that you don't pay for. You got to do the best to not go to these websites that could get viruses on your computer. I just love McAfee since it does the best job for me and I don't need to worry about anything. I do my best to be safe with the websites I do visit. But I know that McAfee has it all under control

Re: Microsoft Debate
when it comes to sites i always play it safe i stay away from sites with infected downloads ect. like software i go to that software vendors site i don't download it from an un trusted site.
Re: Microsoft Debate
While that is smart, even doing that sometimes a virus or two can sneak in through an ad or something like that.
Re: Microsoft Debate
ad blocker is your friend when it comes to that to block them type of ads i never had a virus even when i used windows 7 and i had anti virus on that also if you use a trial version of malware Bytes once a month and do a scan on a normal basis there shouldn't be any issues now since i came back clean after the 2 years i had this windows install on my computer i have to say i'm very lucky
Re: Microsoft Debate
Just because you block the ad doesn't mean your safe. The ad's encoding still loads with page, adblocker or no adblocker.
