Re: Microsoft Debate
First topic message reminder :
If anyone is wondering, Windows 8 was originally intended for mobile devices but Microsoft had to develop the 8.1 patch because many people still use a desktop computer rather than a mobile device. Unfortunately there's going to be a time when support for win7 (which is what I'm using at present) will end, but I'm hoping that this doesn't happen anytime soon.

Re: Microsoft Debate
There was update it did just recently since it did restart by itself. I am guessing it was a Mircosoft update. Since before I signed into my account it had this long message from Mircosoft and I just said skip for now. I am sure there will be another update at some point

Re: Microsoft Debate
I have received two Win10 updates recently, but couldn't keep either one of them off my PC.

Re: Microsoft Debate
It was too many updates at one time. It would be better if they do them in two separate weeks. Just a lot of updates to do at one time. They usually take a while to install and slow everything down. Hopefully that is all of the updates for a while. Still getting used to the changes they made on the last update. Mostly in the notifications window to change the brightness. Also sign out menu with two more users. That is mostly it apart from Windows Explorer looking a little different. Been getting used to all of these new updates since it has been updated

Re: Microsoft Debate
there mainly security Updates to patch some venerable stuff that microsoft didn't know about and it had to be patched other wise hackers can get into windows 10 and i'm glad they patched it that's why we had more updates then normal.
Re: Microsoft Debate
That is a good it is security updates to help that hackers get into Windows 10. But I am thinking they could do that with good Anti Virus software like McAfee. It was good it was patched up from Mircosoft. Just too many updates at one time. Hopefully the next batch of updates won't be all at the same time

Yep the updates are always good. Speaking of McAfee I will be renewing mine in a couple days .
Re: Microsoft Debate
so far windows 10 does fine with it's default windows defender and now people are recommending staying with that being that times are changing of not needing a 3rd party AV for windows 10 as long as Defender is up to date and has all it's definitions it should be fine for the average person such as myself there is no such thing as good AV it all comes down to how you use your computer so it's basically the user's common sense in how they keep the PC Protected.
Re: Microsoft Debate
I don't like Windows Defender as I find it doesn't do anything at all. I love McAfee as it does what it suppose to protect you against viruses on your computer or laptop. As Brandon did say I will be renewing McAfee before the end of this month and will be protected for another year. Just happy there has been no Windows Updates recently

Re: Microsoft Debate
Windows Defender is just useless I don't even use it when Mircosoft put it on there. Since when you open it and look at it then it seems it isn't doing anything at all. Just get rid of Windows Defender there is no point for it at all

Re: Microsoft Debate
i wouldn't say it's trash i have used it since the beginning of windows 10 and never got infected it's all about common sense and how you use your computer all AV has it's flaws there all in there own right protects you to a degree there is no such thing as perfect AV as i said it's all about common sense.
Re: Microsoft Debate
I have common sense and Windows Defender makes no sense me at all. It seems like a useless application that Windows put on there to protect the computer. It seems it didn't work out at all. But that is my thoughts

Re: Microsoft Debate
i have used it since windows 10 came out i would never run a 3rd party AV and that's just my opinion.
Re: Microsoft Debate
I use Windows defender as well as a program called AVG Free at this time.
I am wanting to go back to a program called Norton 360 but, much to my frustration, my parents are more interested in the world's current BS (as well as playing control freak) at present so this matter has been shelved.

Re: Microsoft Debate
Norton is so bloated these days i wouldn't even run it you can't even use your computer for hours with Norton it is so resource heavy i wouldn't trust it.
Re: Microsoft Debate
I would highly recommend McAfee. I don't like AVG or Norton at all. McAfee is a good virus program. You do have to pay for it but it is worth it. I am sure Brandon would agree with me on that

Re: Microsoft Debate
i have never put 3rd party AV on my system for the very fact they take up resources when they scan what i have is just fine and the impact is minimal defender has scanned during a show before with little to no effect on my system while doing things on the computer very Little Resource hungry foot print i tried web root i tried Norton i tried AVG Avast and McAfee all feel flat on there face on my system all used some if not more system Resources while scanning even for just a simple quick scan and i have a top of the line custom build so i'm all about performance of my system since i Live stream it's all about keeping things light weight and simple resource wise.

Plus Norton requires you to do auto pay or you cant use it. McAfee is the better one these days.
Re: Microsoft Debate
I love McAfee since it does what it needs to do. You can run scans if you want to but it does everything automatically. I like it more than AVG and Norton. AVG and Norton are both useless. I will pay what I need to keep McAfee running on my laptop

Re: Microsoft Debate
AVG is making a come back though, it disappeared from store shelves for a little bit. Now it's back again.
Re: Microsoft Debate
i like my system as light as possible and not being dragged down by 3rd party software some AV well eat up your performance so i don't want to take chances some eat up ram and CPU so i need all i can get out of my system
Re: Microsoft Debate
I got some Windows Updates earlier this morning (as of 10:30 AM CDST on 4/15/2020). I honestly don't know what these updates contained but I've been told that its always a good idea to get updates as soon as possible due to hackers.

Not really anymore, they try to use as few system resources as possible and are designed to run in the background while your doing other stuff.
Re: Microsoft Debate
true but i Like to keep my system very simple and not try to change things much.
