Video Vs Audio Only Streaming

Video Vs Audio Only Streaming
Hello everyone,
I was wondering which method of streaming is better, audio only streams like Shoutcast, or a video streaming like on most streaming websites such as Twitch, Camup, etc. Which do you find better? Why? Have you done both or just one or the other?
I am curious to see what you all think.

Hello!
Even though that this happens to be the 1st ever time I've posted in this thread, I need to say that I am not too sure about casting on Twitch as it is meant to be a place for gamers to stream their gaming sessions and not music-themed entertainment programs. Such is just my opinion though, and doesn't represent anyone else.

This topic isn't about Twitch though. It is about whether Video or Audio Only is the better method for streaming.

You can get a chat for audio only streams, it is doable.
Re: Video Vs Audio Only Streaming
ya true but more people will do video streaming anyways over just audio but it can be done tho.
Re: Video Vs Audio Only Streaming
I agree that video streaming is better for live shows, however, if your trying to go 24/7 then Audio is probably better.
Re: Video Vs Audio Only Streaming
Back when I used to live stream I always did video streaming.

Re: Video Vs Audio Only Streaming
since i don't do 24/7 i don't need audio only streaming so video is a better choice for me.
Re: Video Vs Audio Only Streaming
I have only ever done video only myself. I definitely think it allows for better interaction and viewer retention when they can see who is casting.
Re: Video Vs Audio Only Streaming
i actually agree interaction is actually alot better when you do video streams Plus people can see the DJ and the type of gear they use and i try to show case my gear on my show when i can as well

Yeah if your going 24 /7 audio would be best. But show like the one you guys do, interaction via video is the best choice.

Re: Video Vs Audio Only Streaming
oh hush it brandon but anyways for what we do it is key to do video also having good audio Plays a part in this as well since every show i try to keep my audio under the range of clipping OBS can be abit sensitive depending on what kind of mixer you use alot of times the viewers will tell you if your Clipping or some will say it's to Low so interaction is also key in that department as well i had viewers complan that the audio was either to Loud or to Low drove me nut's at times but still it is keyBrandon wrote:DJAaronRadio wrote:i actually agree interaction is actually alot better when you do video streams Plus people can see the DJ and the type of gear they use and i try to show case my gear on my show when i can as well

Re: Video Vs Audio Only Streaming
I agree, the video is a key part of the BGRN streaming experience, I don't think it would be the same if we did audio only.
Also I have heard from a coworker who watches my recordings on Youtube that my audio apparently sounds compressed. Does anyone else think it sounds compressed?

Re: Video Vs Audio Only Streaming
I can't really tell but such could be a result of your USB headset, as most USB mics have a built-in audio condenser.

Re: Video Vs Audio Only Streaming
it don't sound compressed to me i don't use any form of compression on my shows what you hear from my stream onto the archive is very much what you get the full uncompressed audio bit for bit so not really any compression to think about with mine with yours brandon your are kind of using a Lower audio bit rate the Lower the bitrate the more compressed it sounds try Upping your audio bitrate a bit more and see if that changes anything try going away from 96kbps and try either 128 or 192kbps and see if that helps for audio
Re: Video Vs Audio Only Streaming
It's possible your co-worker might be confusing compression to the sound of the headphone microphone. Most of these , to me sound nasal, unlike the regular microphone. My Corsair Void Pro Headset, sound like your set, kinda nasally.
Perhaps getting a reg condenser microphone might improve the sound?

He says it sounds compressed even with the music. Though to be fair this kid is a total nerd, so I am sure he has very high standards in his own mind.
Also you guys really hate that microphone huh? But I like it, it works well and what I like is that I can adjust the sound of the headset without it actually effecting computer audio. If I had to lower the computer audio, the music would then sound really quiet.
Re: Video Vs Audio Only Streaming
i don't mind the mic much but i think your co-worker does have higher standards if he is able to hear compression and it also depends on what device he plays it back on now youtube does add compression to the Videos and that's what he might be referring to i can also tell you when i record my archives i have the audio bit rate on auto since it's an mp4 file and the bit rate to my videos is in between 186kbps to 224kbps so when i send the clips to you brandon there at it's highest quality i can record at it also comes down to the final editing as well and what audio bit rate Windows Movie maker gives it also for an mp4 video file.
Re: Video Vs Audio Only Streaming
While this is my first post on this thread in QUITE some time, I will make some points.
While audio-only casting makes less demands of one's PC, its drawback is that there is no advanced notice of the next song to be played. Streaming with audio and video means that there is the notice but higher PC demands.
The basic point here is that it depends on the person.

Re: Video Vs Audio Only Streaming
well they both work in a similar manner it's just depends on what one is used the most there is a big demand for audio among Internet Radio DJs so there is a need for it if people just want listeners.
