Hello everyone, I wanted to know if Satellite TV is better then Cable TV, if so why? If not why? I know one is cheaper, but are there any other advantages?

Re: Is Satellite TV better then cable?
I may have mentioned this earlier but cable television doesn't need a converter box for every television set like a satellite TV system does

Yeah, that is often true, they often just run splitters between the box and the other tv.
People just dont watch local channels, they also watch other channels and often satellite tv has more sports channels then cable.

Ok if you want to.
Re: Is Satellite TV better then cable?
I should also mention that some places (e.g. apartment blocks) have banned satellite TV systems on account of the need to install the receiving dish outdoors and the cables that accompany them

Some, others allow it granted it placed in a cinder block and bucket and causes no damage to the building.

cable signals go through even in cloudy weather, satellites do not.

Actually, sattelite signals do go through in cloudy weather nowaday, the techonology has gotten much better. Now really the only thing that can knock sattelite signals are really big thunder storms, the kind that can knock out power, which also by the way knocks out cable when that happens.

cable has always been more reliable then satellite signals

Re: Is Satellite TV better then cable?
perhaps, but cable TV is not affected by severe weather (aka hail, hurricanes and tornadoes).

I am sorry, if there is a tornado or hurricane, chancea are, your power is going out. Hence not even cable will work.
Re: Is Satellite TV better then cable?
the cable signal will still work, it is your power that will not

Well considering that your tv and cable box need power, I would say without power it is not working, also if you consider the fact that most cable wires are run right along with most power lines, chances are if something happens to your power line, it will also effect your cable line(s).
Re: Is Satellite TV better then cable?
the cable will work because it is hooked up to a tv, even if the tv is not getting power

The cablebox needs power though, without it, it will turn off and not work. That is just how it is, the cablebox needs to be on for you to recieve service, without it, the cablebox will BE OFF, therefore you will unable to recieve the service.
Re: Is Satellite TV better then cable?
it will still work, just you will not see the signals as you have no power to it, it is the same with satellite.

Re: Is Satellite TV better then cable?
Yes, precisely, but it takes a storm that strong that it can knock out power, to really completely knock out service with a sattelite. That was my point, the storm that could knock out sattelite service is also the storm that could knock out power and therefore your cable service as well. Just saying that sattelite dishes have improved so much that there really isn't much difference between cable and satellite nowadays.
